Description of Property: Located on the east side of Campbell Road north of the village of Roseneath, the property at 177 Campbell Road is a 4 acre lot that includes a 1 ½ storey Ontario stone cottage set back 900 feet from the road.

Statement of Cultural Heritage Value and Interest: The property’s design and physical cultural heritage value is reflected in it being representative of the 1 ½ storey Ontario residential stone cottages of the mid-19th century once common through the area. Originally a log cabin, this home was built during the 1840s when Alnwick Township was first being settled.  At some point skilled local stonemasons used the stone cleared from the fields to enhance home exteriors using cut stone for the south and west facades and undressed field stone for the north and east facades. The simple design is supported by the location of the window and doorway bays on the front façade.

Description of Heritage Attributes: The cultural heritage value of the property at 177 Campbell Road as representative of a mid-19th century stone cottage and as a link to the area’s early rural settlement is represented in the following attributes:

• 1 ½ storey design                                                     • location and size of window and doorway

• peaked gable above front entranceway                    bays including window bay in peaked gable • location of two brick chimneys at east                        above front entrance
