Alnwick/Haldimand and Port Hope claim victory in the

Mayors’ Keep the County Clean Challenge


Cobourg, ON – June 21, 2017 –  The Township of Alnwick/Haldimand and the Municipality of Port Hope have retained their respective titles in the annual face-off for bragging rights between the seven local municipalities, as part of the Mayors’ Keep the County Clean Challenge.

“We congratulate Alnwick/Haldimand on maintaining their status as champions for the seventh year in a row in the category of Highest Volunteer Participation per capita, with six per cent of their population signing on to the Challenge,” indicated Manager of Environmental & Technical Services Adam McCue. “In the category of Hardest Working Volunteers, Port Hope claimed victory for the second year in a row, skyrocketing to first place with an incredible 37.5 kilograms of waste collected per volunteer. We applaud the winners, and of course extend our sincere thanks to all volunteers who donated their time to participate in this year’s Challenge. Their contributions make an incredible difference to our community.”

This was the ninth year for the Mayors’ Keep the County Clean Challenge, where the County and area municipalities encourage all residents to join in both organized and independent activities to help clean up their neighbourhoods. 1,587 registered volunteers collected over 17,680 kilograms of litter from recreation areas and roadsides throughout the County during the week of April 16th.

The Challenge concluded April 22nd with a free appreciation barbecue and festivities attended by over 800 people at the County recycling plant in Grafton.

Citizen of the Year 2015

Mr. Ivan Hutchison

We are proud to honour Ivan Hutchinson as 2015 Citizen of the Year.  His dedication and years of service to the Roseneath Agricultural Society and to the 4H Programs have proven Ivan to be a strong and tireless leader.  He has provided 4H Youth with his knowledge, integrity and passion for farming, while imparting his personal qualities of a very caring person and good citizen.

100th Year Anniversary of

Congratulations to the 4-H Club on the 100th Anniversary, a wonderful milestone for such an important community group, one in which our “Citizen of the Year” Mr. Ivan Hutchison has been an active member and promoter of the 4-H initiatives for many, many, years.
